Library Board Minutes

March 2022

DICKINSON AREA PUBLIC LIBRARY

BOARD MEETING MINUTES

MARCH 8, 2022

Zoom Meeting Participants: Linda Carlson, Johnna Douthit, Rita Ennen, April Frank, Brian Kopp, Paula Martin, Renee Newton, Nikki Wolla

Meeting called to order at 4:05 PM by President Douthit.

Minutes from January 11, 2022: See Handout MSP

Expenditures: See Handout

Jan and Feb was included in this report. There was an expense for new shelving that was different. Otherwise all expenditures were normal. Report approved. MSP

Financial Report: See Handout

          Nothing out of ordinary.

Library Director’s Report:

Director Ennen reported that staffing was going well.
Library reading programs have had very high participation numbers.
An Earned Lock-in was planned for this weekend. 19 teens were invited.
All other programs (Story Time, Tweens, Teens) very well attended.
New book club in Belfield at Cake and Cup has been started.
          Book Mobile is going strong.

Unfinished Business:

          Space Planning:
New shelving for the kids and some for the area around the newspapers have been purchased and partially installed. The shelving requires back

stops to prevent things from falling behind and in-between the shelves. The estimate for the backstops is about $4000. A motion was made to

                   approve this expenditure. MSP

Library Foundation:

The President of the Foundation, Keith Fernsler, and the Vice-President, Deb Greenwood, notified the Foundation Secretary, Steve Josephson, that they were resigning immediately. This result came from longtime disagreements about fundraising approaches, definition of the role of the foundation board in relation to the other boards, conflicts of interest, possible personality conflicts, and other things. Rita will send an email and/or have a meeting with the remaining board members outlining what needs to be done next. One thing to be considered is to combine the Friends and the Foundation boards.

New Business:

      Friends of the Library:

Annual Meeting will be May 19, 2022.

      Book Challenge:
A parent has requested that the book “Listen, Slowly” be removed from Juvenile Fiction and be put in the Young Adult section. This board decided that

the library staff should make the decision. If the parent is not satisfied, she could come to this board for further action. This is more a parenting issue

                than a library issue.

      National Library Week:
                April 3-9, 2022
MSP to give $10 gift certificates from Grub Tub to all the staff.

      Staff Training Day:
MSP to close the library on May 13 for a staff training day.
Oceans of Possibilities for Summer Reading.

Next Meeting: April 12, 2022 4:00 FACE TO FACE

Adjourned 5:15

Respectfully Submitted by
